Punjab voter turnout may not touch 2017 mark, AAP bastions among lowest

Even when talking about “waves” had collected land in front of Punjab voting, the country’s vote number hovered around 64% at 5 pm. While the voters are still in and the last figure will be released on Monday, the number is estimated to lack 77.63% recorded last time.

Among the lowest turns were in Amritsar, including Amritsar East which had the highest faceoff, between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Bikram Akali Dal Singh Majithia. It saw a 53% election. The overall polling of Amritsar was 57.74% right behind Mohali, which was at 53.10% the lowest rank.

While Punjab recorded 65.14% of polls in 2002, the total number from – 75.42% in 2007, 78.3% in 2012 and 77.36% in 2017.

Voter turn-out is also very low in the AAP fortress in the Malwa region, from which most of the 20nd won in 2017. Polling in Mansa, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Muktsar and Sangrur Regency were lower than 2017. In the Malwa region, Gidderbaha recorded the highest poll, at 77.80%.

Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur, from where Minister Charanjit Singh Channi tried to be elected, each recorded a ballot of 70% and 71.30% until 5 pm. Channi is MLA sitting from Chamkaur Sahib.

In Dhuri, where AAP CM Bhagwant Mann’s face is a candidate, 68% chose until 5pm.

Fortress Badals in Lambi and Jalalabad from where the former CM Parkash Singh Badal and Sad President Sukhbir Singh Badal contest each viewed 72.40% and 77% respectively.

Mansa saw 77.21% poll, Malerkotla 72.84%, Fazilka 73.59%, 70.43% sangrur and 74.12% muktsar.

Patiala City, from where the former CM Capt Amarinder Singh is looking for re-election, seeing 62.10% choosing.

BRJP Fortress Sujanpur, in the Pathankot district, recorded 71.5%, the highest percentage of voting in the Majha region. In the Doaba region, Sultanpur Lodhi recorded 68.1%.
