Deep Sidhu, actor-activist accused in Red Fort violence, dies in car crash

Actor Punjabi and Activist Deep Sidhu, who shot into the center of attention after the violence of the Red Fortress during the farmer’s rally on the Republican Day last year, died in an accident on the road on Jalan Raya Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) near Sonepat on Tuesday night.

Virender Singh, DSP, Law and Order, Sonify, confirmed that Sidhu died when his vehicle crashed into the back of the truck.

Police said the incident was reported at around 9pm near the peepli toll booth at KMP, in the Kharkoda Haryana area, when Sidhu and his friend, a Punjabi actress, was on his way to Punjab in Scorpio.

A senior police officer said the vehicle hit the back of the stacellary truck that had been broken down on the side of the road. The side of the driver Scorpio bears the impact burden.

“Sidhu who was in the wheel at the time. His friend suffered bruises and was taken to the nearest hospital for inspection. His condition was stable,” said a police officer. Sidhu rushed to the nearest hospital, where he was declared dead. His body was taken to a civil hospital in Kharkoda.

The day after the Republican Day Farmers’ protest last year, who had spinned with violence in the national capital, Delhi police have registered 25 firs against leaders and protesters of the Agricultural Union for allegedly storming the red fortress and seizing property.

He was given a guarantee by the Delhi court in April, but was arrested again by the Branch of Delhi Police Crime from Tihar Prison for allegedly “damaging” Red Fortress, in a case that filed a complaint submitted by the Indian Archaeological Survey.

In a clock of tweet after Sidhu’s death, Minister of Punjab Minister Chararjit Singh Channi wrote: “It is very sad to learn about the deaths that do not benefit well-known actors and social activists, #deepside. My thoughts and prayers with family and grieving fans.”
