AR Rahman Reacts To Remix Culture: “Who Are You To Re-Imagine”

AR Rahman, who is currently busy promoting Mani Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvan, recently spoke about the remix culture and called it distorted. In an interview with India Today, when asked about his thoughts on other composers remixing his tunes, AR Rahman said, “The more I see, the more it is distorted. The intention of the composer gets distorted. People say, ‘I am reimagining.’ Who are you to re-imagine? I am also very careful about taking someone else’s work. You have to be respectful and I think it is a grey area, we need to sort it out.”

AR Rahman also spoke about how he deals with the requests from producers and directors on remaking and remixing his tunes./p>

He said, “The other day, we had the Telugu music launch and the producers said, every song that you two (Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman) make, sounds fresh now because it is all done in digital mastering. It already has that quality and everyone appreciates it. So, if I need to do that, I need to recreate it. Of course, people take permission, but you cannot take something recently and remake it again. It feels weird.”

Recently, Neha Kakkar made headlines for remixing Falguni Pathak’s song O Sajna, which wasn’t appreciated by many.

AR Rahman had started his profession as a tune composer for Mani Ratnam’s 2022 movie Roja. Thirty years later, the duo has again for the duration drama Ponniyin Selvan 1. The movie, directed with the aid of using Mani Ratnam, stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Trisha, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi withinside the lead roles. Ponniyin Selvan 1 will launch on September 30.
